About allergies
"What is an allergy?"
We often hear that “increasing your immunity (resistance) will make you less likely to get sick”, but there are two types of immunity: good immunity and bad immunity.
Good immunity means that once a virus (antigen) invades the body, the body develops immunity (antibodies) against it, preventing the onset of disease when the same antigen invades the body again. Bad immunity, on the other hand, is the production of antibodies against mites, dust, pollen, animals, food, etc. (antigens) that should not be harmful to the human body in the first place, resulting in symptoms that are harmful to the human body. Say what causes it. Allergy refers to a constitution with this bad immunity, and various diseases develop depending on the part of the body where the immune reaction occurs.
For example, when an immune reaction occurs in the skin, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, contact dermatitis, etc. If you wake up in your nose, allergic rhinitis, hay fever. If it occurs in the bronchi, it becomes bronchial asthma.
"Is my child allergic?"
I often receive the question. When determining whether or not you have an allergy, please check if the following items apply to you.
①Among family members (parents, siblings, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, cousins from the child's point of view), those with allergies such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and bronchial asthma there is
2) Repeating the same symptoms over and over again. (For example, every time I catch a cold, I get an asthma-like wheezing cough. Every time I eat eggs, I get red eczema around my mouth and on my body.)
(3) As a result of an allergy test (blood test), the allergy antibody level is higher than the standard value for your age.
I try to judge that "the possibility of allergic predisposition is high" when all of these three items apply. There are various ways of thinking about allergies among doctors, but I believe that the important thing is to detect allergies early and prevent them from recurring.
